Ways to Combat Fear

Fear is triggered when we feel a threat or harm to our physical, emotional or mental well-being. It is from our survival instincts that we fear. The human psyche is wired to avoid pain and gain pleasure. Our survival instincts kick in and steer us away from anything that makes us fearful.

Types Of Fear: Fear of Failure. Fear of Uncertainty

We fear failure because our desire for success and significance far outweighs failure and feeling small and unimportant. The fear of uncertainty is common among many of us because of the need to know what is coming next. It negates you from stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing your full potential.

Overcoming Fear:

The first step to overcoming fear is to become aware of it and acknowledge it. Lay out in detail the fear and decompose it in small amounts that is manageable to you. Expose yourself to the fear; although you won’t be less fearful, it gets you braver. There is something within you that responds. There are two systems that play in your mind in response to fear. One system is associated with approach and challenge and the other is defensive aggression and withdrawal.

Conclusion:

Choosing to approach and challenge fear is more associated with positive emotion and it is much less hard on you. Exposure to fear creates a familiarisation and slowly and gradually minimises the fear response. Observe courage in yourself.
