How To Deal With Negative Thoughts & Feelings

Your mind is like a garden. What you plant will grow!

When we allow weeds of negativity to take root; they quickly choke out peace and joy. However, if we choose to plant seeds of hope and gratitude, our inner world flourishes.

Here is how you deal with negative thoughts and feelings…

1. Guard your mind

Negative thoughts and feelings are part of our human experience but it doesn’t have to control us. They can occur any time, anywhere and multiple times daily. Denial of it is not a way to deal with it.

Be careful what you think because your thoughts run your life. The key principle here is what we dwell on shapes our emotions and actions.

What thoughts do you allow to dominate your day?

2. Guard your tongue

Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit. You choose!

Negative self-talk feeds discouragement while kind words bring healing and sustenance. Speak to yourself the way you would to a friend who needs encouragement.

3. Practice kindness

“Your own soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel” – Proverbs 11:17. Kindness is a powerful antidote to negativity. Whether it’s kind words to yourself or a small act of kindness to others, it restores peace and joy.

What small act of kindness can you give today to shift your internal state?

Remember that feelings are seasonal and temporary. They are never permanent. Wisdom is knowing that today’s stormy weather shall pass.

Ask yourself – Can I accept this season without letting it define me?

Let this reshape your thoughts, words, and how you live. Next time negative feelings arise, lean on these principles.
